Athletics Wellington Relay Teams have success at National Schools Cross country

Athletics Wellington representative teams had success at the Interprovincial Schools Cross Country Relay on day two of NZ Secondary Schools Championships Cross Country  at Hawera on Sunday. The Wellington teams picked up three of the six titles available and a silver medal. This followed on from some strong individual performances  for their schools on Saturday. top individual results on Saturday were achieved by Will Anthony (Scots College) placing second and Henry Beliveau (Wellington College)  third in the Senior Boys 6km. Ava Sutherland (Wellington Girls’ College) took gold in  Junior Girls 3km with team ate  Amy McHardy (Wellington Girls’ College) placing second. Josh Taylor T20 (Wairarapa College) won the Para Boys 2km.

In the schools team competition Wellington Girls College and Wellington College both picked up medals in the three and six person teams competitions.

In slightly better conditions on Sunday the five person relay teams each completed 2 laps over the 1km lap course for their provinces.

5 x 2km Relay Boys:
Senior: Wellington 31:58 1,
Counties Manukau 32:12 2, Canterbury 32:25 3.
Junior: Wellington 34:33 1, Canterbury 35:01 2, North Harbour 35:25 3.
Year 9: Waikato Bay of Plenty 36:16 1, Wellington 36:58 2, Waikato Bay of Plenty B 37:22 3.

5 x 2km Relay Girls:
Senior: Auckland 36:36 1, Southland 38:03 2, Waikato Bay of Plenty 38:06 3.
Junior: Wellington 37:50 1, Waikato Bay of Plenty 38:40 2, Taranaki 38:57 3.
Year 9: Waikato Bay of Plenty 38:55 1, Canterbury 39:13 2, East Coast North Island 39:39.
